Service delivery policy

Thank you for choosing Lawyers for Energy, Environment, and Development (LEED) Limited as your legal advisers. This Service Delivery Policy sets out how we take on and deliver legal work, what you can expect from us, and what we need from you. It applies to services requested through https://leedllcbd.org/ and to engagements arranged by telephone, email or in person. By instructing us, you agree to the terms below.

How an Engagement Begins

Our process follows four steps:

  • Enquiry. You contact us with a brief description of your matter through the website, by email, by telephone or in person.
  • Conflict check. Before we can advise you, we check that acting for you would not conflict with our duties to an existing or former client. We usually complete this within 2 business days.
  • Consultation. We meet to discuss your matter, assess its merits, and explain the likely approach, timeline and cost.
  • Engagement letter. If you decide to proceed, we confirm the scope of work, the fee basis and the responsible lawyer in a written engagement letter. Work begins once that letter is accepted and any agreed advance payment is received.

Submitting an enquiry does not create a lawyer-client relationship. That relationship begins only when we confirm the engagement in writing.

How Services Are Delivered

Depending on the nature of the matter, we deliver our services through:

  • Consultations at our chambers, by telephone or by video conference. Evening and weekend appointments can be arranged.
  • Written advice, opinions, contracts, notices and other documents, delivered by email in PDF or by hard copy where a signed or sealed original is required.
  • Representation and appearance before the trial courts, tribunals, the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, arbitral panels and regulatory authorities.
  • Filing, registration and compliance work before authorities such as the RJSC and sectoral regulators.
  • Ongoing retainer support, including regular reporting on active matters.

Response and Turnaround Times

  • Initial enquiries: acknowledged within 2 business days.
  • Consultation scheduling: normally within 3 to 5 business days of your request, and sooner in urgent matters.
  • Written advice and drafting: as agreed in the engagement letter, typically 5 to 10 business days from receipt of complete instructions and documents.
  • Urgent matters, including injunctions, bail and time-barred filings: handled on a priority basis. Tell us immediately if a deadline applies.

These timelines are targets for our own work. They do not apply to steps controlled by others, such as court listings.

Your Responsibilities

The quality and speed of our work depends substantially on what we receive from you. You are responsible for:

  • Giving us accurate, complete and truthful information and disclosing facts that are unhelpful to your position as well as those that support it.
  • Providing original or properly certified documents when they are required for filing.
  • Attending scheduled hearings, meetings and appointments, or telling us in good time if you cannot.
  • Keeping your contact details current, and responding promptly when we ask for instructions.
  • Paying court fees, stamp duty, registration charges and other disbursements when they fall due.

We are not responsible for delays, adverse orders or additional cost caused by incomplete, late or inaccurate information from a client.

Matters Outside Our Control

Legal proceedings run on timetables set by others. Court and tribunal calendars, adjournments, strikes or bar association abstentions, processing times at government offices and regulators, the conduct of opposing parties, and events such as natural disasters, civil disruption or general holidays may all affect timing. We will keep you informed and press your matter forward, but we cannot guarantee dates that are not ours to set.

No Guarantee of Outcome

We commit to competent, diligent and ethical representation. We do not and cannot guarantee any particular result in litigation, arbitration, or before a regulatory authority. Any assessment we give of prospects is a professional opinion based on the information available at the time, not a promise.

Geographic and Jurisdictional Scope

We advise on the law of Bangladesh and appear before Bangladeshi courts, tribunals and authorities. We accept instructions from clients located outside Bangladesh, and can consult remotely. Where a matter requires advice on foreign law, we will say so and, if you wish, help you identify appropriate counsel in that jurisdiction.

Confirmation and Records

You will receive written confirmation of key steps in your matter, including the engagement letter, filings made, hearing dates, orders received and advice given. We maintain a file for each matter and can provide copies of documents from it on request, subject to our fees being settled.

Changes to Scope

If your matter develops in a way that goes beyond the agreed scope of work, we will tell you before carrying out the additional work and agree the revised scope and fee with you in writing.
